How to remove bass from a song

01

Choose your recording

Select an MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or OGG you own or have permission to process. Preview it locally and confirm it is the version you want to practise.

02

Make room for your bass

Choose Remove bass. We separate the song into four stems, then open the workbench with bass muted and vocals, drums and other ready to play. Everything appears on this page.

03

Listen, then play along

Bass and Play with the band are selected first. Prepare export saves that mix as MP3 or WAV. Use Listen to my part or Quiet guide to learn a passage before playing it yourself.

MADE FOR YOUR NEXT STEP

Make a bassless backing track for rehearsal

Learn the line first

Choose Bass and Listen to my part to study a phrase on its own. Select a passage on the waveform, repeat it and adjust speed or pitch before trying it with the band.

Keep a little guidance

Quiet guide leaves bass at 25% in the full mix. Use it while learning the arrangement, then choose Play with the band to remove that part when you are ready.

Rehearse a new arrangement

Remove the original bass line to leave room for a different one, or rehearse vocals over a lighter backing. Vocals remain in this mix; choose our vocal remover if you need a karaoke instrumental.

LISTEN BEFORE YOU USE IT

Check the bassless track before your session

Some bass may remain

Overlapping instruments and effects can leave traces of the original bass. Listen to busy passages before deciding whether the backing works for your practice.

The kick should still be there

A bass remover aims to remove the bass instrument, not every low frequency. The kick drum and other low sounds should remain in the backing.

Keep the arrangement in mind

The separated stems follow your source timing. The workbench can change practice speed and pitch together, with up to five minutes of changed output or ten at original speed and pitch. It does not add a count-in or supply tabs.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Bass Remover: FAQ

Is bass removal the same as turning down the bass EQ?

No. This tool estimates the bass instrument as a separate stem, then makes a mix from the remaining stems. EQ reduces a frequency range and can also reduce kick drums or other instruments.

Can I remove bass from an MP3 and save the backing track?

Yes. Select your MP3 and choose Remove bass. The workbench opens with bass removed; choose Prepare export for MP3 or WAV. Vocals, drums and other instruments stay in the backing. You can also hear isolated bass or a quieter guide from the same job without another separation.

Will the backing be completely free of bass?

Separation is an estimate. Bass bleed and other artifacts can remain, particularly in dense mixes. Listen to the result before using it for a rehearsal or performance.

Is the complete result free?

Yes. Completed jobs include full-length downloads without an account or payment. Up to 5 jobs per browser per day are shared across our separation pages, resetting at midnight UTC. Each file can be up to 10 minutes and 100 MB. Network and site-wide capacity limits also apply.

Which files can I use, and when should I save the result?

Choose a mono or stereo MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or OGG that your browser can play and that you have permission to process. Streaming links and video files are not supported. Save the result within 55 minutes of separation finishing; preparing a practice version does not extend that deadline. Uploads are private, temporarily stored and deleted automatically. See the privacy policy for retention details.
