Choosing a new file clears this browser’s recovery access to the existing job. It does not cancel processing. That job may still finish and count toward your allowance.

How to make a backing track for rehearsal

01

Choose the right arrangement

Select a recording you own or have permission to process, up to 10 minutes and 100 MB. Preview the introduction, structure and ending. Start from the version you want to rehearse: a live take may differ from the studio arrangement.

02

Create your accompaniment

Confirm your audio rights and select Create backing track. One two-track separation produces an Instrumental WAV and a vocal reference on this page. The result opens on Instrumental, with the source recording’s tempo and arrangement.

03

Rehearse with the saved WAV

Check vocal entrances, a loud chorus and the ending. Download the Instrumental WAV within 55 minutes of completion, then test the saved file in the player and on the playback system you plan to use. Keep a local copy before rehearsal.

MADE FOR YOUR NEXT STEP

Turn a backing track into a rehearsal plan

Learn the entrance, then take over

Use the included vocal to learn a phrase, then switch to Instrumental at the same playback position and sing it yourself. Both versions come from one job; switching or downloading the other track uses no new separation.

Plan the first beat and the ending

The backing keeps the recording’s existing introduction and ending. Listen for the cue you will use to begin. If you need a count-in, a shorter intro or a fade, prepare those edits in your audio editor after downloading.

Test your playback before the session

Open the downloaded WAV in your rehearsal player and listen on the speakers you will use. Check volume, important musical cues and any remaining voice. For a performance, listen through the full file before deciding whether the result is suitable.

Cues you can follow

Check the intro, transitions and ending. Separation does not add a metronome, count-in or new arrangement. You need an audible musical cue or a count-in prepared in your own editor to start reliably.

Vocal traces and accompaniment

Reverb and voice fragments may remain, and instruments can sound thinner where they overlap with vocals. Listen to a loud chorus and quiet verse. A completed separation does not guarantee a backing suitable for a live performance.

A file and rights ready to use

Save the WAV before the link expires and verify that it plays locally. Check your rights to the recording and music for the use you plan, including any public performance or distribution. Separation does not provide those permissions.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Backing Track: FAQ

What is a backing track?

A backing track is recorded accompaniment you play while singing or performing a part yourself. This tool makes an instrumental from a recording you provide. It does not generate a new band performance or offer a library of downloadable songs.

Can I make a karaoke backing track from my song?

Yes, if you have permission to process the recording and the separation suits your use. Download the Instrumental WAV to sing along. The result is audio only: it includes no on-screen lyrics, karaoke video or added count-in.

Can I change the key or tempo of the backing track?

Yes. Adjust speed and pitch in the result workbench, then choose a passage or the whole recording and prepare an MP3 or WAV. Changed speed or pitch allows up to five minutes of output; original speed and pitch allows ten. The separate original WAV downloads always keep the source tempo and pitch.

Can I get a backing without bass or drums?

This page removes the combined vocal part and keeps the instruments together. For a bassless or drumless backing, use the four-track stem splitter. In its workbench, choose Bass or Drums and Play with the band, then export your current mix as MP3 or WAV using the same stems.

Is the full WAV download free?

Yes. Completed jobs include both full-length WAV tracks, with no account, email address or payment required. The allowance is up to 5 jobs per browser per day, shared across our separation pages and reset at midnight UTC. Each file must be no longer than 10 minutes and no larger than 100 MB. Network safeguards and site-wide capacity limits also apply.

Which files and links can I use?

Choose a mono or stereo MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or OGG file your browser can play. Use audio you own or have permission to process. YouTube, Spotify and SoundCloud links are not accepted. Separation does not grant rights to publish someone else’s recording.

How long can I access the files?

Download links expire 55 minutes after processing finishes. Uploads are private, temporarily stored and deleted automatically; that does not extend the download window. Save your WAVs promptly. See the privacy policy for retention details.

Do I need to separate again after a refresh?

This browser can recover its latest two-track job using an essential temporary cookie, including when you move between the homepage and these two-track pages. Check the existing job before submitting another. Recovery does not start a new separation, and a local original preview is not restored after a refresh.
